'That's a tough lie': Phil Mickelson just landed a horrible tee shot on this 1st floor balcony

Great place to watch The Open, not a good place to play The Open.

THE ROAD HOLE, the 17th on the Old Course at St Andrews, has ruined many golfer’s day down the years and it has claimed Phil Mickelson today.

Mickelson’s undoing was not the famous bunker, however, but the pesky plush accommodation that overlooks the fairway.

Making a solid charge early with no bogeys and six birdies putting him at -10, Mickelson pulled his tee shot horribly and it hopped around the concrete and iron before resting smack bang in the middle of a balcony.

The five-time Major champion immediately turned to pull a new ball from the bag and ended up with a triple bogey 7 that effectively ends his hope of lifting the Claret Jug.

Update! The people lucky enough to be staying in room 130 this fine Major Monday just won a free golf ball.
