Dundalk have more players than champions Cork City in PFAI Team of the Year

Four Dundalk players and three from Cork City in team selected by players’ vote.

AIRTRICITY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Cork City have three representatives on the PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year for 2017.

But it is league runners-up Dundalk who take the lion’s share of the places with four nominees while Derry City, Shamrock Rovers and Galway United complete the selection.

Sean Gannon, Niclas Vemmelund, Patrick McEleney and David McMillan are the four Lilywhites to feature in the end-of-season XI — which is voted for by the players themselves — while for Cork, Ryan Delaney, Gearoid Morrissey and Seanie Maguire get the nod.

Derry City’s Ger Doherty is named in goal, and is joined on the team by Candystripes clubmate Aaron McEneff, while Trevor Clarke and Ronan Murray represent Rovers and Galway respectively.

Maguire, McEleney and McEneff will do battle for the individual honour of PFAI Player of the Year while McEneff is also in contention for Young Player of the Year alongside Clarke and Delaney.

Shane Duffy, James McClean and Robbie Brady are shortlisted for Overseas Player of the Year while Megan Campbell, Katie McCabe and Denise O’Sullivan are nominated for International Women’s Player of the Year.

Paul Tuite, Paul McLoughlin and Graham Kelly are the three nominees for Referee of the Year.
