Big blow for Stringer as the 38-year-old scrum-half faces three months out

The veteran Corkman suffered an injury during Sale Sharks’ draw with Worcester Warriors on Saturday.

SALE SHARKS WILL have to plan without Peter Stringer for the foreseeable future after he sustained an injury while in Aviva Premiership action for the club on Saturday.

Steve Diamond, Sale’s Director of Rugby, confirmed today that Stringer tore his bicep tendon during their 34-34 draw with Worcester Warriors.

Stringer, who was facing former Munster team-mate Donncha O’Callaghan at Sixways, was replaced by Mike Phillips in the 57th minute.

“He snapped his bicep tendon on Saturday so he’s going to be out for two to three months,” Diamond told BBC Sport.

Despite the fact that he turns 39 in December, 98-times capped Stringer signed a one-year contract extension with Sale last summer having been named their Player of the Season for the 2015-16 campaign.

Looking forward to John Cooney coming to Ulster. He could surprise a few people if he stays fit and if he gets game time. Paul Marshall really always has been an impact player. It will be interesting to see if he can gel with PJ and how well he can develop.
