PER MERTESACKER HAS always been affectionately known as the BFG — or the ‘Big F***in German’ — to Arsenal fans but on Saturday evening one over-zealous commentator used the nickname as Mertesacker headed in the Gunners’ third goal.

While it is an expression you would not regularly hear from English commentators, Germany’s Eurosport channel had no intention of blocking it out.

Arsenal claimed their second FA Cup in a row with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa thanks to goals from Theo Walcott, Alexis Sánchez, Mertesacker and substitute Olivier Giroud.
