What happens when Pepe Reina tries to be a sweeper keeper like Manuel Neuer

The Bayern Munich number one was due a rest today, but his back-up has messed that right up.

WITH THEIR CHAMPIONS League semi-final second leg against Barcelona just three days away, Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola opted to rest his goalkeeper for todayโ€™s Bundesliga meeting with FC Augsburg.

Bayern, who have already wrapped up the German title, started with former Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina between the sticks but were forced to call on regular number one just 13 minutes in.

After a ball down the middle unlucked the Munich defence, Reina came running out to wipe out Raul Bobadilla as he bore down on goal. The Spaniard was deservedly shown a straight red card meaning Neuer was introduced off the bench.

Paul Verhaegh was unable to take advantage from the penalty spot, hitting the post from 12 yards, but Augsburg earned a shock 1-0 victory.

@Gareth Ward: ah I dunno, I like it. I was there last year for a game and it has that big football feel about it that you donโ€™t get from modern stadia. That being said, the proposals for the new ground look unreal

@Gareth Ward: moron . One of the greatest stadiums in the world. I have been in most of the famous ones except the azteca. Abosolute philistine to suggest this is not one of the greatest .

@Nigel Delaney: didnโ€™t have any trouble with tickets. Went to an AC game v Sampdoria and got tickets from the ticket centre at the ground the day of the game.

Was there a while ago. Itโ€™s definitely seen better days.

Amazing that two internationally renowned teams playing the same sport can use common sense and share a stadium.

The Aviva and Croke Park are underutilized assets, money going/gone towards paying the debts could have been put into grassroots.

At least the Bertie Bowl wasnโ€™t built

@Goban Saor: By โ€œsharingโ€ you mean the professional rugby and soccer guys want to use the facilities of their more successful amateur counterparts.

@Goban Saor: They are only still doing it now due to Italian politics making it really difficult for many teams to get approval to build stadiums in Italy. A lot of the stadium are owned by City Council who donโ€™t want to lose out on rent and have empty stadium.

@Seamus Cummins: Thatโ€™s problem in a nutshell. Napoli have had same issues with renovating Stadio San Paolo. Naples Municipal Council owns the stadium and doesnโ€™t want to pay for upgrades.
