Here's how one of football's all-time greats ended up with a Bohemians jersey

That’s not a bad present for the club to receive on their 125th birthday.

THE OFFICIAL TWITTER account of Bohemian FC tweeted out a picture of Brazilian legend Pele holding up the famous black and red shirt this morning.

Sadly, the three-time World Cup winner, now 74, isn’t coming out of retirement to spend at season lining out at Dalymount Park.

However, we contacted Bohs press officer Brian Trench to find out exactly how the photo opportunity came about, and here’s what he had to say…

“During the Bohemian Legends v the FAI International Masters charity match to celebrate our 125th birthday back in September, FAI project manager, Derek O’Neill, informed the club that he has a contact in Brazil,” Trench told The42.

“So we sent him a signed jersey and received the picture this morning.”

Trench added that they plan to auction the shirt for charity when it returns signed by The Black Pearl himself.

Pele actually played at Dalymount back in February 1972, when 30,000 fans turned out to watch Santos face an XI made up of Bohs and Drumcondra players in a game which the Brazilian outfit won 3-2.
