Pele: Birth of a Legend hits the big screens in May and it’s a pretty slick production going by the trailer.

There is some Irish interest too as Colm Meaney plays George Raynor, who coached Sweden to the final of the 1958 World Cup – where a 17-year-old Pele scored twice in a 5-2 Brazilian win.
Historically, the sport hasn’t enjoyed the greatest cinematic representation but if Meaney’s last outing as a key football figure is anything to go by (as iconic former Leeds United manager Don Revie in adaptation of David Peace’s novel The Damned United), this should be decent.
