PAUL SCHOLES MAY have retired two and a half years ago, but that doesn’t stop him having his say on affairs within the game in general, and the Premier League in particular.
Now a pundit with BT Sport having signed a four-year deal with them in July 2014, the former Manchester United and England midfielder is not impressed by the current standard of teams and players in the English game, with the sole exception, it seems, of Argentinian Sergio Aguero.

He says Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the only places where top players can be presently found, with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus also ahead of the top English sides in terms of quality.
“If you look at the quality of player that comes to England I don’t think we have the best players in Europe or in the world,” Scholes said on BT Sport.
“I really don’t think it’s any surprise. When you think about the quality of players we have, do you think any of the players at our top clubs now would get in the Barcelona team? I very much doubt it.
“They wouldn’t get in the Real Madrid team or the Bayern Munich team. Maybe Sergio Aguero is the exception.”
Strong words from Scholes and perhaps no surprise given the slow start by English clubs in the Champions League this season and the fact that only two Premier League sides have lifted European’s premier trophy in the last 10 seasons.
