PAUL GALVIN’S RETIREMENT as a Kerry senior footballer was confirmed by Kingdom manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice after today’s McGrath Cup clash in Killarney.
It marks the second time Galvin’s retirement has been announced after he previously called it a day in February 2014.
But Galvin made a sensational return last March to the Kerry setup and despite injuries hampering his 2015 campaign, he was introduced as a second-half substitute in last September’s All-Ireland final loss to Dublin.
On this occasion Galvin’s retirement decision looks to be definitive and that Dublin game will be his last appearance in Kingdom colours.
Speaking on Newstalk’s ‘Off The Ball’ last November, Galvin had hinted that work commitments would prevent him for getting involved again in 2016.
Kerry’s squad returned yesterday from a team holiday to Florida and after watching an experimental side lose to Clare this afternoon in Fitzgerald Stadium, Fitzmaurice confirmed to reporters that Galvin had retired for a second time.
But in better news for Kerry fans, Fitzmaurice did reveal that the rest of Kerry’s squad is available for action this year and that means veterans like Marc Ó Sé and Aidan O’Mahony are set to prolong their inter-county careers.
Great read Sinead.. not too bad for Scallionators..
V proud Carlow man
@Fergal Barry: Fair play to him. at least he tried to play a proper sport.
In Ireland I hear if you are good at the Gaelic football you will always get a good job.
@Frankin Finkin:
In any other country if you are good at football, football is your job.
@Frankin Finkin: I know a county player who failed maths in his leaving cert, twice. Ended up working in the bank!
The most over hyped division 4 promotion of all time. They will be cannon fodder when they meet any half decent opposition

Divide Carlow in 2
Scallions v Shallots
You know it makes sense
Played against many a time. Whether it was underage against Carlow or Lourdes Celtic in the soccer or minor and 21s with Carlow. Gent of a man and a top athlete!
My mate Dave from the pub had trials with Leeds in the 90s
The bottom line is he he had of made it in England, he would not of given a dam about gaa. Perhaps this is what powers the cult rejection from the worlds game. I read all about how popular gaa is, yet the figures quoted in recent Irish Times article tells a different story, average Gates have been declining year after year for the Dublin senior team. But being the good ponzi scheme it is, the good oul boys in gaa will just keep whoring out croke Park to concerts.
@Paul Kersey: Nobody on here this morning to feed the troll
The person that runs the Carlow GAA page is a bit of a bloody legend, aren’t they?
