DERRY CITY’S PATRICK McEleney could be the latest League of Ireland player to make the move across the water to England.

The 23-year-old midfielder is being linked with Peterborough, who earlier this year signed another Irish midfielder, Chris Forrester, from St Pat’s.
And Director of Footballer Barry Fry has confirmed that the club are still interested in McEleney, whose asking price is understood to be £150,000, despite the player’s trial being cut short after he picked up an ankle injury after 20 minutes of a reserve game with Birmingham.
Fry is quoted by various media as saying: “Our manager Graham Westley likes him a lot although we are concerned about the number of injuries Patrick has suffered. We might still take a punt on him, but nothing will be decided until I have a meeting with the manager and the chairman after the Barnsley game (24 November).”
The Irish club are yet to comment on this latest development regarding McEleney, who had a brief spell with Sunderland as a teenager.
McEleney has represented the Republic of Ireland at underage level, though in 2013 indicated his intention to switch allegiance to the North.
