OLYMPIC-BOUND PÁDRAIG HARRINGTON is in confident mood and feeling good about his game again after a fine display at the US PGA Championship at Baltusrol this weekend.
The Dubliner finished in a tie for 13th on six-under par, thanks in part, to a superb round of 65 on Saturday. The three-time major winner was also the clubhouse leader in New Jersey at one point on Sunday evening.

“I probably played my best on Thursday and shot the worst score, which is interesting. Six under is probably a good return on the week, although it’s obviously not good enough,” said the 2008 winner.
With the golf event in the Olympics not starting until 11 August, the 44-year-old does not head to Rio just yet, and will instead compete in the Travelers Championship in Connecticut this week, before heading to Brazil.
“So many things are better. I’m happy with my swing, getting a lot better with my putting, getting a lot better with my mental side.
“The only thing I’m not comfortable with would be my short game. Then when I look at the PGA Tour, I’m number one in bunkers and number four in strokes gained around the greens, but I don’t see it so good.
“Maybe I need to change my attitude. Everything else is good.”
Crucially for Harrington, this week’s performance in the final major of the year has seen him rise 26 places to 124th in the world, and puts him firmly in the hunt for one of the qualifying places for the lucrative FedEx Cup, which starts the week after the Olympics.
“I feel good. I would like to take this into every day I play the next number of years. I’m going to take this attitude and I feel like I’m in a great place.”
