Greg Broderick is also in action today aboard MHS Going Global in the second round of the individual showjumping event from 14.00. The Tipp native qualified in 53rd position, 60 advanced from the first round, but will need to move up the standings with just 45 spots in tomorrow’s third qualifier and 35 places up for grabs in Friday’s final.
Michael Conlan can guarantee himself a medal and deliver a much needed shot in the arm for Irish boxing after a disappointing Olympic Games so far for Zaur Antia’s squad. The world champion will face off with Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin in the quarter-finals of the men’s bantamweight (56kg) division at 15.30.
Annalise Murphy will hope to challenge for a medal after wind issues yesterday first saw the Laser medal race delayed and eventually postponed until today. The medal race is scheduled to get going at 5.05pm.
Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern are back on the water again from 5.05pm in the men’s 49er class for races 10, 11 and 12. The pair are currently in seventh position overall and will be looking to move up the standings ahead of Thursday’s medal race.
Saskia Tidey and Andrea Brewster are also due to get going in races 10, 11 and 12 of the women’s 49er FX. They are currently in 12th position overall. That action is due to get going from 5.05pm.
After impressing in running a season’s best time (48.93) yesterday, Thomas Barr returns to the track in the early hours of tomorrow morning for the semi-final of the men’s 400m hurdles. Barr has been drawn in the third of the three semi-finals which is scheduled for 01.49am on Wednesday morning.
The men’s triple jump final is on this afternoon (13.50 start) and Christian Taylor is the man to beat, having jumped more than 10cm longer than anyone else in the world this year.
