DONEGAL FOOTBALLER ODHRÁN MacNiallais has revealed he is stepping away from the inter-county scene in 2017.
The 24-year-old confirmed his intentions to take a break “for personal reasons” in The Donegal Democrat.
The versatile Gaoth Dobhair club man has ended speculation by taking the decision, but added that he was unsure what the immediate future held.
“I’m taking a year out, but not sure about the American part,” he told the paper.
There was no fall out or anything with management or players. It is just for personal reasons.”
However, MacNiallais said he was unsure whether or not he would spend time in the US this year.
MacNiallais was first drafted into the squad by Jim McGuinness in 2011, making his debut in the 2012 Dr McKenna Cup.
After missing the rest of that season with injury, he returned in 2013 and was part of the 2014 Ulster Championship winning squad.
The news of his departure comes just two weeks after Leo McLoone informed the Donegal management team he would not be available for selection in 2017.
The Tír Chonaill kick off this season’s Allianz National Football League campaign against Kerry on 5 February.
