Odell Beckham Jr's reckless head-first lunge sparks furious reaction

Giants wide receiver condemned for behaviour against the Panthers.

CAROLINA CORNERBACK JOSH Norman has called on the National Football League to take action against Odell Beckham Jr over the New York Giants star’s helmet-to-helmet head shot on the Panthers player on Sunday.

Beckham’s wild third-quarter lunge on Norman dominated the post-match discussion after the Panthers survived a thrilling Giants fightback to extend their unbeaten record to 14-0 with a 38-35 win.

Beckham, one of the most high-profile players in the NFL, picked up no fewer than three personal fouls during an ill-tempered battle with the Panthers defence where he frequently lost his cool.

Many pundits said Beckham should have been ejected after his headshot on Norman — a view shared by the Carolina player.

“I feel like the league should take a look what the guy was doing,” Norman said afterwards.

“The guy took a shot at me like I don’t know how many times. When you’re taking a shot at a guy’s head, c’mon now.”

“I hope I pulled back the mask on who he really is,” Norman added. “Players like that don’t need to be in the game.”

Norman meanwhile agreed “100 per cent” with teammate Cortland Finnegan, who said Beckham should have been tossed from the game.

“It’s fine if he wants to dance and prance around like a ballerina but he shouldn’t try to be something he’s not,” Norman said.

Beckham meanwhile refused to be drawn when quizzed on his transgressions. “You’re out there competing against one of the best teams in the league, an undefeated team,” he said.

“Anyone who has a passion for football is going to go as hard as they can.”
