Munster and Toulon in full agreement, calling mooted Paul O'Connell move 'pure speculation'

The Top14 club issued a firm statement about Ireland’s captain this afternoon.

JUST AS TOULON were drafting a statement to insist that Paul O’Connell would not be joining the Top 14 club, Anthony Foley was in Cork echoing them by dismissing the reports.

“The Rugby Club Toulon cautions that Paul O’Connell has not signed a contract with RCT,” says the unusual statement from the club on the Mediterranean coast, “and the alleged contacts between the player and the ‘Rouges et Noires’ are pure speculation.”

O’Connell didn’t train at Musgrave Park today as he was nursing a shoulder injury, but Munster head coach Foley chose to brush aside the issue as media generated speculation which he suggested the lock would casually laugh off.

“There’s some carry on going in the background,” Foley told Cork’s RedFM today.

“It’s all in the media, when you talk to Paul there’s nothing. Even when the Pau stuff came out he had a good laugh around that. He probably having a good laugh at the Toulon stuff.

It’s probably a fella trying to scout every club to get as many of the world’s best players. Unfortunately for him, he’s with us.

The head coach added: “I tend to just bin stuff like that.”
