As it happened: Norwich v Liverpool, Premier League

Relive all the action as Jurgen Klopp’s team overcame a disciplined Norwich at Carrow Road.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Liverpool’s trip to take on Norwich in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s team are coasting this season, so what are the chances of a rare slip-up on their return from the winter break?

A win here would see the Reds move to 43 games unbeaten in the league. Norwich have lost 11 of their 13 Premier League games against Liverpool.

The team news is also in, and Klopp can welcome Sadio Mane back to the bench, while Naby Keita replaces Fabinho in midfield.

The hosts are unchanged from their 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

Kick-off at Carrow Road is at 5.30pm, so join us then for all the action as it happens.

10mins

Norwich may be bottom of the table but they have experience of taking a big scalp here already this season, having beaten Manchester City 3-2 earlier in the season.

Might we see another upset this evening?

We think not…

We’re just five minutes away from kick-off at Carrow Road.

Liverpool get things underway at a breezy Carrow Road. The worst of Storm Dennis is expected to hit the area during the game, so hopefully conditions don’t get too bad.

Both teams line out in their traditional colours, and the home support are in fine voice.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

Salah ventures forward and tries to find Firmino with a driven pass, but the danger is cleared.

Unsurprisingly, Norwich have set up with a narrow, deep, defensive formation without the ball.

An early effort for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from the edge of the box, but he doesn’t connect properly and it’s easily saved.

Norwich work the ball into a promising position, and following some good hold-up play by Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell is easily dispossessed in the box and the move breaks down.

A decent pace to the opening stages here.

Norwich think they have Liverpool on a counter-attack but Pukki is caught offside.

15mins

Norwich win a free on the half-way line as Alexander-Arnold brings down Cantwell. The ball is fired towards the box but Alisson collects unchallenged.

20mins

Some nice work by Keita and he finds Salah in the box, but again Liverpool can’t break down the Norwich defence.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

25mins

An early substitution for Norwich as Sam Byram appears to have pulled a muscle stretching to reach a misplaced pass.

Jamal Lewis will come in to take his place.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

27mins

A lovely switch of play from right to left by Liverpool. The ball is worked back across to Salah on the left and he moves forward before pulling the ball back to Alexander-Arnold, but his low driven shot is blocked away.

32mins

Robertson gets to the byline and fires a low cross towards Salah but it’s cut out before reaching the Egyptian. Liverpool beginning to look a bit more dangerous going forward now.

WHAT A SAVE!

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

35mins

That was exceptional by Alisson.

A long ball over the top catches the Liverpool defence off-guard and Rupp finds himself bearing down on goal. He draws out the Liverpool ‘keeper before trying to play in Pukki, who was just yards to his left, but Alisson somehow gets down to claw the ball away when it looked as though Pukki was about to tap the ball home.

Brilliant goal-keeping.

40mins

Hanley goes in the book for a foul on Firmino and Liverpool have a free-kick in a promising position, just to the right of the Norwich penalty area.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

42mins

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson both standing over the free-kick. The referee isn’t happy with the placement of the ball.

Alexander-Arnold whips the ball in but Krul is able to gather the cross unchallenged.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

46mins

Robertson gets forward down the left again and sees his low shot blocked wide for a corner.

The ball in fails to beat the first man.

Half-time: Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

Not a classic 45 minutes at Carrow Road.

Liverpool had plenty of possession but failed to create any real clear-cut chances. Surely Klopp will look to introduce Mane if his team continues to struggle against the packed Norwich defence.

The Reds would surely be behind if it wasn’t for Alisson’s brilliant intervention to nick the ball off Pukki’s toe.

That moment alone will be enough to offer Norwich some hope, as they’ve managed to get in behind the Liverpool defence more than once.

We’ll be back with all the action from the second-half shortly.

Kick-off: Second half

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

50mins

More patient attacking play from Liverpool before Keita tries to find a run in behind from Alexander-Arnold, but the ball is cut out before Salah gives away a free-kick.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

53mins

Henderson gets his team into some trouble by giving the ball away carelessly in midfield. The initial attack breaks down but Norwich rework the ball to Pukki, who manages to create some space in the box before firing into the side netting.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

58mins

Keita drives an effort at goal from the edge of the box but Krul is on hand to tap the ball over the bar.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

59mins

Just after Van Djik sees a header easily saved by Krul, Salah works some space and sends a low effort at goal.

Krul gets down well to save and then manages to smother the ball as Keita looked sure to tap home.

Liverpool’s best chance of the game so far.

60mins

A double-substitution for Liverpool.

Mane and Fabinho have been introduced in place of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wijnaldum.

65mins

Mane has been heavily involved since entering the action.

He started the latest Liverpool attack which saw Robertson cross for Salah, but again his goal-bound effort is blocked by the Norwich defence.

66mins

Aarons almost skews the ball into his own net as he blocks a Robertson cross out for a corner.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

69mins

Mane by far looking the most dangerous player on the pitch.

He pops the ball over Aaron’s head and darts into the box but Krul gets off his line to kill the danger.

CHANCE!

71mins

Again it’s Mane at the heart of things as he plays in a wonderful ball to find the run of Salah.

Salah produces a first-time cut-back across goal but has no support, and Norwich clear the danger again.

Norwich 0-0 Liverpool

POST!

72mins

A chance for Norwich as Tettey smacks the post from an unlikely angle.

The home crowd starting to sense that their team might be able to pull off an upset here.

75mins

Lewis shows some great feet to work an angle but his shot hits his own player in the Liverpool box.

A lively couple of minutes here with both teams now creating chances, but it remains scoreless.

Goal: Norwich 0-1 Liverpool (Mané, 78)

Norwich 0-1 Liverpool

78mins

Of course it was that man Mané.

He’s been superb since coming on in this second half, and his moment of magic breaks the deadlock.

After all that neat passing, it’s a long ball over the top from Henderson which finds Mané and he takes it down with his right foot, before spinning and firing a low shot with his left foot into the bottom corner.

We have a quick VAR check but the goal rightly stands.

Norwich 0-1 Liverpool

83mins

A trio for substitutions as we enter the final 10 minutes of the game.

Milner comes in for Keita, who was on a yellow card.

Meanwhile Drmic replaces Tettey for Norwich, while Buendía comes in for Rupp.

CHANCE!

86mins

A superb ball across the box from Alexander-Arnold finds Firmino but he can’t supply the finishing touch.

89mins

Chance!

Pukki races in on goal with Van Djik in pursuit but his shot flies straight at Alisson.

Norwich 0-1 Liverpool

92mins

Norwich work a promising position again and the ball falls to Buendía just inside the box.

He tries to chip a pass over the top, but appears to be caught in two minds and just fires the ball wide.

A wasted opportunity with one minute of stoppage time left to play.

Full-time: Norwich 0-1 Liverpool

That’s that from Carrow Road.

Not a vintage Liverpool performance by any means, and they struggled to break down a stubborn Norwich defence before the introduction of Sadio Mané.

That’s Liverpool’s 17 successive win in the league, and they move 25 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
