TIPPERARY HURLER NOEL McGrath will undergo surgery for testicular cancer this Friday, the Tipperary County Board revealed this morning.
The 24-year old is a former Young Hurler of the Year and won back-to-back All-Stars in his first two years playing senior championship hurling.
The Loughmore-Castleiney forward scored one of Tipperaryโs four goals as they beat Kilkenny in the 2010 All-Ireland final, a victory that denied Kilkenny their famous โDrive for Fiveโ.
The statement from Tipperary reads:
โNoel McGrath will undergo surgery for testicular cancer on Friday 17 April.
โThe Tipperary senior hurling squad, senior hurling management, Tipperary County Board and all Tipperary supporters wish Noel well during this time and look forward to welcoming him back in the Tipperary colours in due course.
โWe ask everyone to respect the privacy of Noel and his family at this time and in the coming weeks.โ
Hoping all goes well for him. Such a young age tooโฆ

Very sad news. Heโs a lovely guy, he was my sonโs teacher last year. Heโs young and healthy and Iโve no doubt heโll come through this stronger than ever. Wishiing him all the best.
Ahh Mrs Thornton
Sorry message didnโt type fully. Was meant to read I taught your son as well last year as myself and Noel did our teaching practice in the same school. Hope he is getting on well
Heโs doing great, thanks for asking :)
Not much love there for you Luke. You musta been tough on the young ladโฆ
Well if he was, iโd say it was more than likely deserved!
Jeez, you just never know where it will strike. Get well and back playing soon
Hope everything goes well for him and heโll be back playing soon
Hope everything goes ok.
Health first, hurling second, by a long shot.
All the best for a speedy recovery
We actually did our Secondary Teaching Dip practice in the same school together last year. My old school St. Benildus in Kilmacud.
Absolute gent to have worked with for the year.
Speedy recovery Noel.
Best of luck to Noel he will be a major loss this yr for us in Tipp but will be back next yr. One thing I must say though what kind of a bloody sick gimp can red thumb this story, really now you would have to wonder what creatures read the journal. I hope cancer never hits their family. And I do not believe the theory some people put forward that people hit the red thumb button by accident.
Hope all goes well Noel.
Just goes to show, that guy is fit as a fiddle and he gets cancer, cancer doesnโt discriminate,a plague of our times, best of luck to him,his toughness will get him through it,great hurler and a lovely chap to,look forward to seeing him back on the field tearing teams apart
Totally true. Being fit will make a huge difference to his recovery though. Best of luck, Noel.
Best of luck noel! Spoke to you at one of our summer camps! Lovely fella! youโll be back on the playing field before you know it! Up tipp
Class Hurler but Iโm sure he will make a full recovery, if he brings half of his on the field attitude to the table he will be grand.
I wish him a speedy recovery .
Good luck to you Noel. We will see you in September.
Beat of luck to Noel. As a big GAA fan and also a cancer survivor Iโve had the same procedure as Noel and Iโm certain heโll be fine. His physical fitness will be a great help in his recovery and his mental attitude from playing at the top level will also help.
Best of luck Noel with your recovery ! Although you ll be missed on the Loughmore line outs as well as Tipp ones โ your health is more important. Iโm sure your place on the team will be reclaimed very soon.

Good luck to him and a speedy recovery.
All the best.
Hope he makes a speedy recovery. Some player
Good luck Noel, best wishes for a speedy recovery, looking forward to cheering you on in a Tipp jersey for many many years to come.
If Tipp Co Board are asking for privacy why are they giving all the details on lineโฆ.
Tipp Co Board are just passing on the message, no statement would have been released with out his say so.
It also stops any rumours mills doing the rounds and the Irish press are generally very good for respecting peopleโs privacy in issues such as this.
