From an ostrich to a ram: Nigel Pearson is back in management

Derby County have appointed the man behind the ostrich rant.

AND HE’S BACK in management.

Nigel Pearson was sacked by Leicester City last summer and then watched his replacement Claudio Ranieri astonishingly guide the club to the Premier League title this season.

But Pearson will be back involved in English football next season after signing a three-year contract today with Championship outfit Derby County.

The Rams saw their dreams of clinching promotion to the Premier League dashed recently when they lost out to Hull City at the playoff semi-final stage.

Derby sacked manager Paul Clement in February with Darren Wassall taking over until the end of the season.

Wassall will now return to his role as academy director with former Derby defender Chris Powell joining as Pearson’s assistant.

For those journalists who regularly cover Derby County, this is big news.

After his infamous ‘ostrich’ rant in the aftermath of Leicester’s loss to Chelsea last April, there’s a clear warning here not to get on the wrong side of Pearson.
