THE ROSCOMMON MANAGERIAL position has taken a new turn with former player Nigel Dineen throwing his hat into the ring to take charge of them for 2017.
Fergal O’Donnell stepped down on Monday with Roscommon county board then deciding that his joint manager Kevin McStay would have to be nominated and go through the process along with any other candidate to take charge.
McStay, who took charge this season for what was meant to be a three-year term, has not indicated whether he will now go forward for the position.

But it has now been confirmed that he will face competition with former U-21 manager Dineen, who guided them to All-Ireland finals appearances against Dublin in 2012 and 2014, going for the job.
And he told Shannonside FM that he has support from current players, former players and clubs in Roscommon.
“Nobody expected this to happen with the joint management, it was a three-year term.
“I know these players really well, I know their strengths and weaknesses, and I know they are a gifted bunch of players and that they really want to achieve and I believe they will achieve.
“I’m a very passionate Roscommon ex-footballer and manager and I have got serious support since I put my name forward from ex-county footballers, from current players and from the clubs and it is very important that who ever is the manager that they get the full support backing in the county and that they come behind the new manager,” said Dineen.
The Castlerea St Kevin’s clubman, who won a Connacht senior title with Roscommon in 2001, said his work with underage in recent years leaves him in a good position to take over the senior team.
