NICHOLAS QUINN FINISHED fourth in his 100m breaststroke heat this evening but it wasn’t enough to secure a passage through to the semi-finals.
The 23-year-old finished strongly in Lane 3 but his time of 1:01.29 was well off the qualification pace, with the top 16 finishers going through.

After going in Heat 2, Quinn was forced to watch and wait to discover his fate but in the end he was never in contention to progress with the 33rd quickest time.
The Castlebar native will now focus his efforts on Tuesday’s 200m breaststroke heats, which would be considered as his strongest event.
Meanwhile, Great Britain’s Adam Peaty launched his Olympic campaign with a bang, clocking a world record 57.55sec in this evening’s heats.
Peaty lowered the world mark of 57.92 that he set in London in April 2015.
