NFL Sunday Hangout: Join us here to discuss all of the big Week 1 action

Football’s back, baby!

Football’s back!

We’ve sat through a long off-season, and then pretended to care about training camps, pre-season games, and whether or not Ryan Fitzpatrick signed his damn contract… but we’re finally here.

The Broncos and Panthers got us off to a flier on Thursday night (well, Friday morning for those of us who had to stay up past our bedtime), but now we’ve arrived at the first Sunday of the new season.

It’s that wonderful time of the year when everyone’s a potential Super Bowl champion. Except for the Browns.

Over the next 17 weeks and all through the playoffs, we’ll be here every Sunday night as all the action unfolds. So when OBJ makes a ridiculous play, or Jay Cutler throws an infuriating pick, and you have something to get off your chest, this is the place to do it.

Get down to the comments section and let’s get this season started.

Here’s a quick reminder of the 6pm games we have to look forward to this evening.

For anyone watching on Sky, it’s Green Bay @ the Jags.

6pm kick-offs

  • Green Bay Packers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Buffalo Bills @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Chicago Bears @ Houston Texans
  • Cleveland Browns @ Philadelphia Eagles
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons
  • Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans
  • Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets
  • Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints

While you’re waiting for kick-off, check out Steve O’Rourke’s Week 1 preview, along with his picks for each of the 16 games.

He’s already 0-1 for the season so as Mick Hucknall would say, things can only get better.

(Edit: D:Ream sang Things Can Only Get Better, not Simply Red. Poor, poor 90s pop knowledge.)

The NFL is back and week one could bring a few surprises >

Today is, of course, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with those who lost their lives set to be remembered across America today.

Julio Jones has a special pair of cleats for the occasion, with a picture of the Twin Towers and the words “never forget.”

If you’re hanging out on Sunday evening to chat about NFL, chances are that you’re probably involved in a fantasy football league (or seven) and have spent the last while tinkering with lineups and making some last-minute changes.

Go on, tell us — what big decisions did you have to make this week? If nothing else, it will give us a good chance to laugh when Jeremy Hill has the game of his life and he’s there sitting on the bench.

Here’s a quick run-down of all those early results:

  • Green Bay Packers 27 @ 23 Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Buffalo Bills 7 @ 13 Baltimore Ravens
  • Chicago Bears 14 @ 23 Houston Texans
  • Cleveland Browns 10 @ 29 Philadelphia Eagles
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31 @ 24 Atlanta Falcons
  • Minnesota Vikings 25 @ 16 Tennessee Titans
  • Cincinnati Bengals 23 @ 22 New York Jets
  • Oakland Raiders 35 @ 24 New Orleans Saints

And we’ve one game in overtime! The Kansas City Chiefs scored 17 points in the last quarter against San Diego to level it up at 27-27.

WOW! Where do you start after that drama?

In the main Sky game, the Packers just held on against the Jaguars. A piece of magic by Allen Robinson kept the Jags’ final drive alive but in the end, they came up just short.

The Raiders (!) came from 14 points down to beat the Saints on the road, Michael Crabtree getting up to catch the two-point conversion before Saints rookie Wil Lutz missed a 61-yard FG to tie it at the death.

An incredible comeback by the Chiefs as well who have just beaten the Chargers in OT thanks to a two-yard Alex Smith rush. That one finished 33-27.

Here’s what we’ve got to keep us entertained for the next while:

  • New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
  • Detroit Lions @ Indianapolis Colts
  • Miami Dolphins @ Seattle Seahawks

For anyone settling down in front of Sky, they’re showing Giants-Cowboys.

It’s a great idea on lots of levels. I hope that this doesn’t disturb the homophobes too much!! Real men are not insecure about their sexuality or how their actions look to bigots
