THE ABOVE ADVERTISEMENT will become part of the build-up to this Sunday’s Super Bowl.

After a season in which some professional American football players have again been mired in controversy with charges of domestic abuse, advocacy group Ultraviolet has started calls to remove Roger Goodell as NFL commissioner.

In addition to the above ad, Ultraviolet have now also been cleared to run the #GoodellMustGo campaign on leading sports website SportsIllustrated.com from Thursday.

After initial reports that Sports Illustrated had rejected the ads, HuffingtonPost today reports that the stance has changed. Spokesman Scott Novak explained that a “technical glitch” and a wish to clearly draw the line between the editorial stance of SI and the commercial was at the root of the delay:

“The banner ad we felt could be mistaken for our editorial stance. If there is going to be an opinion on the matter we prefer to let our writers and editors take ownership of those opinions.”
