Kildare were 1-15 to 1-12 clear entering the final seconds of normal time, but Down ran out four-point winners after a late scoring blitz which rocked the Lilywhites at St Conlethโ€™s Park.

After an entertaining first half, Kildare led by 1-7 to 0-9 with their goal coming thanks to Niall Kelly. However, Down substitute Caolan Mooney netted in the 40th minute to put the sides on level terms.

Padraig Fogarty then had a Kildare penalty saved by Stephen Kane, who come on to replace the black-carded Michael Cunningham. A brilliant Darrach Mulhall point had Kildare three in front entering the final stages, but then the drama began.

When Paul Devlinโ€™s free came back off the crossbar, Arthur McConville was on hand to punch the ball to the net. A Devlin point then followed to leave just one between the teams, before Donal Oโ€™Hare pounced for another Down goal which gave them a 3-13 to 1-15 win.
