Former Dublin All-Star and ex-Mayo defender part of the New York squad to face Sligo this weekend

Former Donegal forward Ross Wherity is also part of Justin O’Halloran’s squad.

FORMER DUBLIN HURLER Danny Sutcliffe and ex-Mayo defender Tom Cunniffe are part of the New York panel to face Sligo in Sunday’s Connacht SFC preliminary round.

Sutcliffe, a talented hurler who won an All-Star and Leinster SHC medal in 2013, quit the Dublin panel prior to the 2016 campaign to focus on his Masters studies in DCU.

The St Jude’s man has since moved to New York and lined out at centre-forward for the Exiles in a challenge match against Donegal two weeks ago.

Cunniffe won five Connacht titles with Mayo and started the 2013 All-Ireland final defeat to Dublin at corner-back. He left the Mayo squad to travel to the US 14 months ago, shortly after his club Castlebar Mitchels lost the All-Ireland final to Ballyboden St Enda’s.

Shane Hogan, a native New Yorker, is another member of the 30-man panel. New York are due to name a matchday panel of 26 on Thursday morning.
