NEMANJA MATIC HAD a particularly difficult evening as Chelsea lost 3-1 against Southampton at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Despite Chelsea bringing a number of high-profile names including John Terry back into the team, the Serbian international was left out of the side again tonight.

Matic was then brought on at half-time, before being subbed, when he didn’t appear to be injured, after Southampton had scored their third goal on 73 minutes.

Subbing a sub is is widely regarded as one of the great indignities for a footballer, and Mourinho was criticised for the move, with Sky pundits Niall Quinn and Jamie Redknapp both suggesting it could further damage dressing room morale.
