Another last-fence fall for Ruby as Black Hercules squanders Navan lead

The fall paved the way for stablemate Measureofmydreams to win at 12-1 in the Ten Up Novice Chase.

PAUL TOWNEND AND the Wille Mullins-trained Measureofmydreams capitalised on stablemate Black Hercules’ fall at the last to win today’s Ten Up Novice Chase at Navan at 12/1.

Black Hercules, ridden by Ruby Walsh, got too close approaching the final fence and hit the deck — just a week after Walsh suffered the same fate on Valseur Lido in the Irish Gold Cup.

It had been a perfect run for Black Hercules — who had won his two previous chase starts — up until that point and the 4/11 favourite was reported to be uninjured in spite of the fall. Paul Townend had five lengths to spare from Noble Endeavour, while Pleasant Company was 18 lengths further back in third.

Ruby Walsh had been the beneficiary of some late misfortune earlier in the afternoon when he rode Sambremont to victory at 4/1 in the Flyingbolt Novice Chase after Tell Us More exited at the second-last fence.

Ttebbob looked best-placed to pounce but struggled on heavy ground, as Sambremont kicked on and pipped the 8/11 favourite at the line.

Noel Meade’s Snow Falcon, ridden by Sean Flanagan, was an 11/4 winner in the Ladbrokes Ireland Boyne Hurdle, a race which featured just three runners following the withdrawal of both Val De Ferbet and Prince Of Scars.

Going up against Gigginstown pair Lieutenant Colonel and last year’s winner Dedigout, who were making their first starts of the season, Snow Falcon won by almost three lengths from the former, after Dedigout, the 10/11 favourite, faded at the second-last hurdle.
