Nani opts for Valencia move over Premier League return with Stoke

The Portuguese winger joins the La Liga side on a three-year deal from Fenerbahce.

PORTUGAL WINGER NANI has joined Valencia on a three-year deal after just one season with Fenerbahce.

The Turkish Super Lig club claimed in a statement that they had received €8.5million for the former Manchester United man, who is on international duty at Euro 2016.

Stoke City Mark Bowen confirmed yesterday that the Potters were among the club vying for the 29-year-old’s signature.

Nani has scored twice in five appearances at the tournament to help guide Portugal to the semi-finals, where they will face Wales.

The statement reads: “Valencia Club de Fútbol have reached an agreement with Portuguese international Luis Carlos Almeida -‘Nani’- for the player to join the club for the next three seasons.

“Born on November 17th, 1986, in Praia, Cape Verde, Nani has played as a professional for Sporting Clube Portugal de Lisboa (2005-2007, 2014-15), Manchester United (2007-2014) and Fenerbahçe (2015-2016).

“He began his senior career at Sporting Clube de Portugal, later playing for Manchester United from 2007 to 2014. While in Manchester he won four Premier League titles (2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013), the League Cup (2009), the UEFA Champions League (2008) and the FIFA Club World Cup (2008), amongst other honours.

Returning to Sporting on loan for the 2014/15 season, Nani won his second Taça de Portugal. The 29 year-old spent the 2015/16 campaign at Fenerbahce, making 46 official appearances and scoring 12 goals.

“He is currently in France with the Portuguese national team, who will play in the Euro 2016 semifinals against Wales this Wednesday. He has represented his country on 101 occasions, scoring 20 goals –two of which have come in the ongoing tournament.

“Nani will be officially presented as a Valencia CF player in the coming days.”
