2016 finalists CBC and Crescent to meet in first-round Senior Cup showdown

The tournament gets underway on 16 January.

SCHOOLS HEAVYWEIGHTS CBC Cork and Crescent College Comprehensive will renew their rivalry in the opening round of next year’s Munster Senior Cup.

The tournament gets underway on 16 January, with today’s first-round draw pitting holders CBC against Crescent in a repeat of the 2016 decider.

CBC edged a tight affair 9-8 to clinch a record 29th title in March but the Limerick school turned the tables when the sides met in the Junior Cup final replay.

Today’s draw covers both the senior and junior competitions with Rockwell College taking on St Munchin’s, Glenstal Abbey facing St Clement’s in an all-Limerick affair, Ardscoil Rís meeting PBC, and Bandon Grammar coming up against Castletroy College.

The five winners of the first-round ties will progess to the quarter-finals where they will be joined by one of the five losing teams, who will receive a bye.

The four remaining first-round losers will then go into the play-offs to decide the remaining two quarter-final places.

  • Rockwell College v St Munchin’s College
  • Glenstal Abbey v St Clement’s College
  • CBC v Crescent College Comprehensive
  • Ardscoil Rís v PBC
