Knee injury will keep Chris Farrell out of Munster action until the New Year

A medial ligament strain will keep the powerful centre sidelined for at least six weeks.

LAST UPDATE | 28 Nov 2017

NEWLY-CAPPED IRELAND centre Chris Farrell will be unavailable for Munster’s back-t0-back Champions Cup clashes with Leicester Tigers next month.

The 24-year-old Ulster native suffered a medial ligament sprain knee injury in the second half of his impressive display against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday evening.

After undergoing a scan that confirmed the extent of the injury, Farrell is expected to miss at least six weeks of action, which means he still has a chance of returning just in time for Munster’s Champions Cup round five clash with Racing 92 on the second weekend in January.

With Jaco Taute already a long-term absentee and Keith Earls hamstrung, the loss of Farrell is another blow to their centre resources.
