'It's an embarrassment to boxing that UFC show more respect to woman fighters'

Shane Mosley is taking a stand for female boxers.

FORMER WORLD BOXING champion Shane Mosley ends a two-year absence from the ring later this month and a historic women’s bout is set to feature on the same bill.

Mosley’s own promotion company, GoBox Promotions, will broadcast his rematch with Ricardo Mayorga at The Forum in Los Angeles on 29 August.

And for the first time in over a decade, a major boxing pay-per-view event will also include a women’s title fight, with Maureen Shea set to take on Yulihan Avila on the undercard.

Mosley has witnessed the recent success of women in mixed martial arts, which has been spearheaded by dominant UFC champion Ronda Rousey, so the 43-year-old has decided to take a stand for their counterparts in boxing by giving Shea and Avila a high-profile platform for their upcoming bout.

“It’s an embarrassment to boxing that UFC and MMA show more respect to their woman fighters than the boxing world does, and it’s about time we caught up,” Mosley said.

“I just hope the community gets behind me in this decision by buying the PPV and coming out to support at the Forum live.”
