Shamrock Rovers have signed Aston Villa striker Mikey Drennan

The Ireland U21 international has completed his move from the Premier League club.

YOUNG IRISH STRIKER Mikey Drennan has joined SSE Airtricity League Premier Division club Shamrock Rovers.

The 20-year-old Kilkenny native arrives from Aston Villa, where he spent the last four years playing for their youth teams in the Barclays Premier Academy League and the Next Gen Series — a European competition which the club won in 2013.

Capped for Ireland at U21 level, Drennan has spent this season on loan at Carlisle United and Portsmouth but becomes Pat Fenlon’s sixth signing ahead of the 2015 LOI campaign.

“I feel very happy, it’s a good opportunity for me and hopefully I can kick start my career here and show the fans what I can really do,” he said.

“There were a few other offers but Rovers stood out for me because of their tradition as the biggest club in Ireland and I’ve heard the fans are amazing as well. It’s been a pleasure to come and sign here.

It’s good to be back home, I can’t wait to get started and prove myself. Hopefully the next ten months will bring success, goals and trophies.

“I want to win everything. Rovers need to be winning leagues and I’m going to give everything to try and make that happen.”
