Mick McCarthy was on Sky Sports this morning and he discussed that duet with Linda Martin

‘I left school and was useless at English and hopeless at music… and I’ve got 2 books and a record!’

EARLIER THIS WEEK, a long lost recording of former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy performing a duet with Eurovision winner Linda Martin surfaced.

McCarthy, on the books at Millwall at the time, joined forces with Martin to record a cover version of ‘Did You Ever’ for charity.

The single reached number 15 in the Irish charts and apparently the idea came from Louis Walsh, who was Martin’s manager at the time.

McCarthy was up for the laugh and the rest, as they say, is history. Although the record was consigned to history – until this week when it resurfaced 24 years later.

The Ipswich manager admitted he would have the ‘p*** ripped out of me’ if the audio was ever found and the internet duly delivered.

So, with McCarthy appearing on Sky Sports’ ‘Goals on Sunday’, the conversation naturally veered towards his singing career and Ben Shephard or Chris Kamara wasted little time in bringing it up.

The 56-year-old also joked about the viral video where he glances at the camera, saying it was ‘all for the female fans.’
