ST MICHAEL’S BOOKED their place in the second round of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup in abysmal conditions in Donnybrook on Thursday afternoon.

The teams played out a scoreless first half in driving wind and rain before three second-half tries saw the Ailesbury Road school safely through.

Ian O’Kelly broke the deadlock shortly after the restart with out-half Harry Byrne tacking on the conversion to nudge Michael’s into a 7-0 lead.

Byrne kicked a penalty to extend the gap by another three points before some smart handling gave Stephen Judge a chance to dive over for a second try.

Byrne’s missed conversion left the score at 15-0 but the out-half made no mistake when presented with another simple penalty straight in front of the posts.

Chris Carey added a third try in the closing minutes to ensure Michael’s place in the draw for round two.
