MICHAEL CONLAN AND Michael O’Reilly (who later deleted his tweet) were among those expressing sympathy with Paddy Barnes following his shock defeat at the Rio Olympics earlier.
Conlan defended his fellow boxer following the disappointing result and issued a scathing response to the “keyboard warriors” criticising Barnes after his loss.
“The fact some of you idiots on here giving Paddy Barnes stick is f*****g disgraceful,” he tweeted.
Other sports personalities also gave their thoughts, with many condemning the suggestion that Barnes’ high-profile tweets were somehow associated with his loss, while others cited the Belfast native’s tired-looking appearance as a sign that he was below his best.
