One more year! 'Invaluable' Michael Carrick signs contract extension at Man United

The 34-year-old extends his stay at Old Trafford until June 2017.

MICHAEL CARRICK SAYS he’s looking forward to working under Jose Mourinho after signing a one-year contract extension at Man United.

The 34-year-old was out of contract at Old Trafford this summer but has now put pen to paper on a new deal which will see him play into his eleventh season at the club.

There had been suggestions that Man United were prepared to let the midfielder go but Mourinho says Carrick’s experience and knowledge will be ‘invaluable’ to him during his first season in charge.

“Michael is a very intelligent midfielder and a great reader of the game,” Mourinho said.

“I am pleased that he will be extending his contract. His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever.

“Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me. I am really looking forward to working with him.”

Carrick joined United from Tottenham back in 2006 and has helped the Red Devils win five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, one League Cup, a Fifa Club World Cup, and the Champions League.

“This great club has been a part of my life for the past 10 years, so I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing,” he said.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to work under José Mourinho, who has achieved so much during his managerial career.

“I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support. Winning the FA Cup was a special moment and, hopefully, we can go on to win more trophies in the future.”
