Depay and Blind, hidden, celebrate but the Netherlands were far from convincing. Laurent Dubrule

Made in Manchester! Blind the creator as Memphis Depay gets Netherlands out of jail

United striker scores twice in 3-1 win against Luxembourg.

MEMPHIS DEPAY BAGGED a double tonight as the Netherlands struggled to a 3-1 win over minnows Luxembourg in their World Cup 2018 qualifier.

After Arjen Robben’s opener for the Dutch was cancelled out by a Maxime Chanot penalty, Depay came off the bench and headed the visitors into the lead shortly before the hour mark.

Manchester United team-mate Daley Blind was the provider, floating a cross from the left which Depay powered past Ralph Schon.

The goal was his first in a competitive international since June 2014, ending a 874-day drought.

And Depay made sure of the points in the 84th minute when he curled in this free kick from 20 yards.

The result sees the Netherlands moves to second place in Group A, three points behind France.
