Conor McGregor landed in Los Angeles last night ahead of his UFC featherweight title unification bout against Jose Aldo at UFC 194 in Las Vegas on 12 December.
After he touched down in LA, McGregor was accosted by a reporter from X17 Online, who asked the Dubliner for his thoughts on Ronda Rousey’s recent shock defeat to Holly Holm in their UFC women’s bantamweight title bout.

“Holly fought a great fight, and much respect,” said McGregor. “This is the fight business. These things happen. Ronda will be back. True champions come back. Congratulations to Holly, the new champion.
“Defeat is the secret ingredient to success. True champions can conquer that; overcome it and come back, so I wish her all the best. That’s it.”
McGregor was then asked about Donald Trump’s social media comments in the aftermath of the fight. The US presidential election candidate said he was “glad” Rousey was beaten as she’s “not a nice person”.
Glad to see that @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night. Was soundly beaten - not a nice person!
In an interview with CNN, Rousey had previously expressed her opposition to Trump’s presidential campaign: “I mean, I wouldn’t vote for him. I just really wouldn’t trust the guy with running my country, that’s all.”
Rousey was also criticised for refusing to touch gloves with Holm before their fight began.
McGregor said: “It’s easy for someone who’s not in there to comment. It’s different when you’re in there. The emotions are high. It is what it is. You either want to touch gloves or you don’t. That means nothing
“Donald can shut his big fat mouth. I don’t give a **** about Donald Trump.”
The beginning of McGregor’s career as a political commentator? We’ll reserve judgement until we see him debating the merits of the Universal Social Charge with Vincent Browne.
