Mayweather: Reports of a fight with Pacquiao have 'just been speculation and rumours'

Talk of a bout being agreed for May in Las Vegas is premature, it would appear.

BOXING FANS SEEMINGLY got their hopes up for nothing yet again.

A report emerged last week which claimed that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr had agreed to a $250 million Las Vegas fight to take place on 2 May.

During Sunday’s NBA All-Star game, the TNT crew found Mayweather and asked him about it.

“That’s not true. I haven’t signed yet and he hasn’t signed yet. It’s just been speculation and rumours,” Mayweather said. ”But hopefully we can make the fight happen.”

Mayweather fights under contract to Showtime and Pacquiao to HBO, and there have been suggestions that the networks could delay a potential fight by not agreeing terms between them.

But talks have been ongoing, with HBO recently issuing a statement which said the issue was not an “impediment” to the fight: “We stand ready to go. The principals need to agree to terms and come to a deal.”
