As it happened: Mayo v Dublin, Kerry v Galway - Saturday football match tracker

Settle in for what promises to be a cracking night of action in the National League.

YOU MAY BE entering the red zone amid this wildly busy day of sport, but make yourself a coffee and get back into gear, because there’s plenty more to get through yet.

Our focus here is on the second round of action in Division One of the National League, a week after Dublin and Kerry set such a fine tone in Croke Park.

Last year’s All-Ireland finalists have scattered from the capital for this week’s action: Dublin have travelled to Castlebar for a joust with old rivals Mayo, while Kerry host Padraic Joyce’s Galway.

Both games throw in at 7pm, and we’ll be keeping you right up to date with both.

There are another few games down for decision tonight, with Laois making a fast start in the 6pm throw-in against Armagh in Division Two.

Elsewhere, from 7pm, Cavan host Westmeath in Division Two while it’s an all-Ulster clash in Division Three between Down and Derry.

Earlier today, Wexford beat Carlow 2-10 to 1-06 in Division Four.

Reminder of the team selections for tonight’s games.

Mayo v Dublin

Kerry v Galway

Capture

News filtering through of a couple of pre-game changes for Kerry. Sean O’Shea is out and replaced by Michael Burns, while Graham O’Sullivan is in place of Tadhg Morley.

Change for Mayo – Aidan O’Shea is in, replacing Kevin McLaughlin,

Dublin, meanwhile, make three late changes: Mick Fitzsimons, Conor McHugh and Dan O’Brien of Kilmacud all start. Eric Lowndes, Paul Mannion and Paddy Andrews drop out.

There are around 15,000 people expected in McHale Park for this one. The teams are in their huddles -we’re kicking off shortly!

We’re underway in Castlebar and Tralee!

Mayo 0-01 Dublin 0-00

Aidan O’Shea drives at the Dublin defence and clips the ball over the bar after just 25 seconds. Mayo aren’t messing about.

Kerry 0-01 Galway 0-00

Meanwhile, David Clifford has kicked a point from play to draw first blood for the Kingdom.

Dublin are taking a few minutes to settle in Castlebar, and Ciaran Kilkenny skews a shot badly wide.

Kerry 0-02 Galway 0-01

The teams trade scores in Tralee – James O’Donoghue points for Kerry, to which Damien Comer replies.

Mayo are on top in the early stages against Dublin, but haven’t made it tell on the scoreboard, kicking three wides. James Carr is proving a very useful outlet at full-forward, his pace is causing Rory O’Carroll some early problems.

Mayo 0-01 Dublin 0-01

Ciaran Kilkenny doesn’t make the same mistake twice – he swings over a Dublin equaliser with his right foot.

Kerry 0-04 Galway 0-01

Michael Burns and David Clifford (free) edge Kerry further in front.

Mayo 0-02 Dublin 0-01

Aidan O’Shea wins the ball in front of James McCarthy and is fouled right on the ’45. Diarmuid O’Connor slots it over off the ground, and Mayo are back in front.

Mayo 0-03 Dublin 0-01

What a point by James Carr! He too finds himself on the ’45, and lands a gorgeous point from play.

Red Card!

And Mayo’s good start is badly tainted.

Jordan Flynn catches John Small high with his forearm as he came in for a tackle, and it has been deemed high and dangerous. Mayo have been on top to now, but eeesh, it will be difficult for them from here.

Kerry 0-06 Galway 0-03

Paul Geaney and Shane Walsh swap scores before David Clifford kicks his third point to push Kerry further in front.

Goal! Kerry 0-07 Galway 1-03

Johnny Heaney hits a cracking goal beyond Shane Ryan!

Mayo 0-03 Dublin 0-02

Dean Rock points a free for Dublin, as Mayo go and kick their sixth wide of the game.

Good starts, Mayo-style: by miles the better team, and they’ve reached the 20-point mark just a point up and a man down.

James Carr is giving Rory O’Carroll a chasing at full-forward. Out in front again, he plucks a raking kick by Paddy Durcan out of the air and calls the mark.

James Carr takes the free and it…hits the post and drops wide. Eek.

Mayo 0-04 Dublin 0-02

James Durcan points from play, a first score in 12 minutes for Mayo. Dublin haven’t got off the bus yet.

Kerry 0-08 Galway 1-03

James O’Donoghue lands his second point of the game.

Mayo 0-04 Dublin 0-03

Kevin McManamon is allowed a little bit too much space and thus kicks a point with his left foot.

Dublin are finally asserting themselves on this game, and have owned the ball in these last few minutes. The entire Mayo team have been sucked behind the ball, but survive as Davy Byrne kicks wide.

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 0-03

Fergal Boland stylishly slices a point over the bar, having called a mark from a routine kick-pass that just about travelled the distance.

At the other end, Conor McHugh called a similarly handy mark, but misses the free. That’s a really sloppy miss.

Kerry 0-08 Galway 1-05

Galway ain’t being shaken off easily: Damien Comer and Michael Daly level the game!

Kerry 0-09 Galway 1-05

The Kingdom go back in front almost straight away: Stephen O’Brien scores.

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 0-4

John Small is fouled within the D, and Dean Rock converts.

Colm Boyle needed treatment having hurt himself in making the challenge on Small, he has limped gingerly away but looks like he should be able to continue.

Kerry 0-10 Galway 1-05

Paul Geaney restore Kerry’s two-point advantage.

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 0-05

James McCarthy levels the game with the final kick of the first-half. Colm Boyle is still limping and likely won’t be back for the second-half.

Half-time scores

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 0-05

Kerry 0-10 Galway 1-05

We are back underway!

As expected, Colm Boyle’s day in Castlebar is done. He is replaced by Lee Keegan.

One other change for Mayo – Tommy Conroy is on for James Carr.

Kerry, meanwhile, have introduced Tommy Walsh for James O’Donoghue at half-time.

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 0-06

Dan O’Brien kicks Dublin into the lead for the first time.

Mayo win a free on the right, and James Durcan kicks it well wide.

An eighth wide of the game for Mayo.

Kerry 0-11 Galway 1-06

Micheál Burns stretches Kerry’s lead, only to see Eamonn Brannigan cancel it out almost immediately.

Kerry 0-11 Galway 1-07

Shane Walsh further eats into Kerry’s lead…

In Mayo, James Durcan is booked for fouling Ciaran Kilkenny. Dean Rock’s free-kick drops short, however, and Aidan O’Shea plucked it out of the air in front of his goalkeeper.

Mayo sweep forward and Durcan tries his luck from distance, but Evan Comerford palms the ball onto the crossbar!

Kerry 0-12 Galway 1-07

Tommy Walsh from play. Back to a two-point game.

Goal! Mayo 0-05 Dublin 1-06

Oh my word, audacious stuff from Dean Rock! Kevin Mcmanamon effectively crosses the ball from the endline to the near post, and Rock arrives and somehow manages to flick the ball over Hennelly and into the far corner!

Dessie Farrell flexes his muscles: Paul Mannion is on.

Kevin McLoughlin is on for Mayo, and Liam Flatman replaces Rory O’Carroll for the Dubs.

Kerry 0-13 Galway 1-07

David Clifford points a free.

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 1-07

Dublin have certainly found their groove – Niall Scully kicks under zero pressure inside the ‘D’, and the Dubs have a five-point lead.

Mayo 0-05 Dublin 1-08

John Small points this time, good effort on the run.

Kerry 0-13 Galway 1-09

This game is loyal to its pattern, as Galway keep in touch with another Shane Walsh free.

Mayo get away with one, in a very serious way. The Dubs have a 45, as a Mcmanamon shot took takes a deflection on its way over the endline.

Rock’s 45 drops inside the small square, and Hennelly and Aidan O’Shea get in each other’s way to the extent that Hennelly drops the ball, but it stops dead on the ground before it rolls over the goal-line!

Kerry 0-13 Galway 1-10

Eamonn Brannigann brings the sides level in Tralee!

Paddy Small is on for the Dubs, while Aidan O’Shea’s first appearance ends after 55 minutes.

Kerry 0-14 Galway 1-10

Kerry back in front as David Clifford points a free.

Mayo 0-06 Dublin 1-08

Mayo mercifully find a first score in 23 minutes. Durcan points a free after Lee Keegan was fouled.

Goal! Kerry 0-14 Galway 2-10

Shane Walsh rockets a shot beyond Ryan, and Galway hit the front!

Kerry 0-14 Galway 2-11

The referee is unmoved by howls for a Kerry penalty as Stephen O’Brien looks to be tugged back, and Galway counter and eke out another point from Shane Walsh!

Mayo, to their eternal credit, haven’t hoisted a white flag in the face of the Dubs. Diarmuid O’Connor is fouled by Mick Fitzsimons, who gets a black card for his troubles. That earns them 10 minutes with 14 v 14.

James Durcan, though, kicks a wretched free-kick wide of the near post. Good grief, that was a gimmie.

Cillian McDaid is black-carded for Galway, which leaves them a man short as they try to close out the game and hang on to their three-point lead.

Aaron Byrne, on as a sub for the Dubs, fists the ball goalward but it bounces back off the crossbar. Niall Scully picks up a yellow card for a later challenge.

Diarmuid O’Connor then gets a yellow for tussling with James McCarthy off the ball.

Mayo 0-06 Dublin 1-09

James McCarthy lands his second point of the game. Dubs on their way to another win over Mayo.

Mayo 0-07 Dublin 1-09

Tommy Conroy cuts in on his right and curls a lovely point over the bar. It’s just their second score of the second half.

Diarmuid O’Connor kicks another wide for Mayo. That’s number 10.

Mayo 0-07 Dublin 1-10

Ciaran Kilkenny saunters through the Mayo defence, and the only way they can stop him is by fouling.  Dean Rock clips the free over the bar.

Goal! Kerry 1-14 Galway 2-11

In the first of five added minutes, Paul Geaney finishes off a flowing move to level the game!

Four added minutes in Mayo, by the way. Mick Fitzsimons is back, post sin-bin.

Kerry 1-15 Galway 2-11

David Clifford hits the post, but the ball breaks back to Killian Spillane, who may well have just kicked the winner! Kerry by one deep into injury time.

Mayo 0-07 Dublin 1-11

Another point for Dublin, in a game that’s been a done deal for quite a while.

FULL-TIME: Kerry 1-15 Galway 2-11

Damien Comer’s last-gasp shot for an equaliser went narrowly wide, and Kerry seal a thrilling victory with Killian Spillane’s late, late point!

FULL-TIME : Mayo 0-08 Dublin 1-11

Mayo tag on a late score, but Dublin eventually won at a canter. They were sloppy at times in the first half, but they went through the gears in the second half and the 14 men of Mayo couldn’t stick the pace.

Results:

Division 1: Kerry 1-15 Galway 2-11; Mayo 0-08 Dublin 1-11

Division 2: Laois 0-16 Armagh 0-10; Cavan 1-17 Westmeath 1-13

Division 3: Down 0-14 Derry 0-12
