All-Ireland club finalists Castlebar Mitchels up and running in Mayo championship

Just two months after their defeat at Croke Park, Castlebar are back on the campaign trail.

CASTLEBAR MITCHELS GOT their Mayo senior football championship title defence underway in convincing fashion as they ran out 3-13 to 0-9 winners over Crossmolina.

Two first-half goals set the hosts on their way at Páirc Josie Munnelly before they extended their advantage after the break.

The 29-time winners are looking to continue where they left off in 2015 after advancing to the All-Ireland club final where they were beaten by Ballyboden St Endas at Croke Park last March.

There were also victories for Davitts GAA and Aghamore on Saturday.

Saturday’s Mayo senior football championship results:

  • Breaffy 1-9 Garrymore 0-6
  • Ballintubber 0-11 Hollymount-Carramore 3-03
  • Bealach An Dóirín 1-12 Ballyhaunis 0-12
  • Kiltane 1-04 Knockmore 0-7
  • Claremorris 1-8 Davitts 3-8
  • Charlestown Sarsfields 0-8 Aghamore 3-15
  • Castlebar Mitchels 3-13 Crossmolina Deel Rovers 0-9
