A contrasting start to the 2016 Allianz football league for Dublin and Mayo last weekend. On Saturday night, Dublin were worthy winners by 2-14 to 0-14 against Kerry in Croke Park. On Sunday afternoon, Mayo travelled to Páirc Uí Rinn and were summarily dismissed by 1-18 to 0-12 by Cork.
Will life get better for Mayo tonight or will Dublin heap more misery upon them? It’s a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland senior football semi-final two-game saga.
Throw-in at Elverys MacHale Park is 7pm for this round 2 fixture.

1. Robbie Hennelly (Breaffy)
2. Brendan Harrison (Aghamore)
3. Ger Cafferkey (Ballina Stephenites)
4. Caolan Crowe (Garrymore)
Bad, bad miss by Jason Doherty from a free for Mayo. Spurns a chance to push them ahead.
6 Feb 2016
7:24PM
Mayo 0-1 Dublin 0-1 18 mins – Still only a single point apiece registered by either side, O’Connor for Mayo and Rock for Dublin. Pretty low scoring so far which is likely to please Mayo given how understrength they are and how poor they played last Sunday.
6 Feb 2016
7:25PM
Dublin 0-2 Mayo 0-1 19 mins – Ah that’s just class by Diarmuid Connolly. Aidan O’Shea loses the ball and Connolly makes Mayo pay with a super point.

Dean Rock knocks over a free for Dublin just before the break, much to the approval of the Dublin fans in Castlebar. Jim Gavin’s side have a one-point lead at the interval but the home fans will be happy with their lot considering the wariness at which they welcomed the All-Ireland champions on the back of last Sunday’s hiding against Cork.
Conditions aren’t great for football but the slight advantage at the midway mark is with Dublin.

Evan Regan has a chance to bring Mayo level from a free but he can’t find his range. Coupled with Jason Doherty’s miss in the first-half from a placed ball, these are reminders of how valuable Cillian O’Connor is to this Mayo side. The problem is injury will see him out for much of this league campaign.

8:10PM
Mayo 0-4 Dublin 0-4 41 mins – So we quibble about Mayo’s placed kicking but at least they can score from play. Diarmuid O’Connor weighs in on this occasion, it’s a great score and it brings the sides level.

Big talking point there. The home fans aren’t happy with a free being awarded against Aidan O’Shea, who was surrounded by a bunch of Dublin players as he gathered close to goal. They felt it should have been a free in for the Breaffy man.
