Hummels open to Manchester United move

The Borussia Dortmund defender, a long-term target for Louis van Gaal’s side, believes that a spell abroad would be good for him but has yet to decide if he will leave BVB.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND DEFENDER Mats Hummels says that he is open to the idea of playing abroad, with Manchester United still interested in his signature.

The Germany international has long been linked with a move away from Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are fighting for a Europa League place in the Bundesliga after a disastrous first half of the season.

Goal understands that Hummels remains a long-term target for the Red Devils and the centre-back admits his belief that testing himself in a foreign league would improve him, though he is yet to decide on his future beyond this campaign.

“Often I think that, one day, I want to play abroad but there are also days when I say I don’t need that,” he told Kicker when asked about United’s interest. “But I think the experience abroad is good for the development of a player.

“I have made no decision. I am not the sort of guy who talks about staying at the club when they’ve already decided to leave.

“Everyone knows how much I like to play for Dortmund but I also want to play with a powerful team and a powerful approach.

“Whether or not we are playing in the Europa League has no influence on my decision.”
