Cardiff hooker Matthew Rees sent-off for vicious stamp on Nick Easter

Easter was lucky to escape serious injury.

CARDIFF BLUES HOOKER Matthew Rees faces the prospect of a lengthy ban after he was sent-off for a nasty stamp on Nick Easter during tonight’s Challenge Cup game.

The Welsh international was shown red with four minutes of the match remaining after his boot made contact with Easter’s eye.

Harlequins forward Easter was fortunate to escape without serious injury with referee Alexandre Ruiz left with no choice but to send Rees off.

It was a sour end to an evening which had begun with a minute’s silence for Jonah Lomu, who enjoyed a brief stint at Cardiff Arms Park in 2005.
