The Championship club held their end-of-season awards night and Dubliner Doherty cleaned up by winning a hat-trick of gongs — Players’ Player of the Season, Fan’s Player of the Season and Goal of the Season for his long-range effort against Fulham.
It was unexpected to be honest,” Doherty said afterwards. “I didn’t think I’d make it a clean sweep like that.
“I was a bit shocked but absolutely delighted. I thought the goal might win it but I didn’t think I was going to win the Players’ Player so when my name was read out I was a bit shocked at the time.”
