EX-IRELAND U21 international Matt Doherty scored the all-important third goal as Wolves beat Fulham 3-2 in the Championship last night.

The right-back’s superbly struck effort from distance ultimately proved enough to earn his side all three points and move them to 10th in the Championship.

Derry native Shane Duffy went off injured in the 77th minute during Blackburn’s 1-1 draw with QPR, while promising Dunboyne-born 21-year-old Darragh Lenihan came off the bench to make his second appearance of the season for Paul Lambert’s side.

Alan Judge could not prevent Brentford slipping to 11th, as they were beaten 1-0 by league leaders Middlesbrough.

Full-back Greg Cunningham, a dark horse for a spot in Martin O’Neill’s Euro 2016 squad, scored the winner against his former club as Preston beat Bristol City 2-1, with Eoin Doyle and Alan Browne also in action for Simon Grayson’s side.

Richard Keogh and Cyrus Christie both started, and Jeff Hendrick came off the bench, as Derby drew 1-1 with Reading.

It was disappointing night for Stephen Henderson, who was in goals as Charlton were beaten 5-0 by Huddersfield.

Daryl Murphy and Jonathan Douglas both featured as Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich beat Leeds 2-1.

Ireland full-back Stephen Ward featured in the Championship for the fourth time this season and second time since the turn of the year, as Burnley thrashed MK Dons 5-0. Meanwhile, Darren Potter and Samir Carruthers played the full 90 minutes for Karl Robinson’s side.

For Birmingham, 27-year-old Dublin-born midfielder Stephen Gleeson started, as they drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest to stay eighth in the table.

Finally, Richie Towell was conspicuous by his absence, as Brighton lost 2-0 to a Rotherham team that featured Paul Green.
