BATH HEAD COACH Mike Ford has dismissed speculation linking his club with South Africa lock Victor Matfield.
A report yesterday from France’s Radio RMC Sport claimed that Matfield is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club after the World Cup.
However, Ford has told the Bath Chronicle: “No, we’re definitely not looking at Victor Matfield. We’re looking at recruitment in all positions all the time, but I don’t know where that story has come from.”
After losing to Leinster in the quarter-finals of last year’s European Champions Cup, Bath were beaten by Saracens in the Aviva Premiership final.

Matfield has spent the majority of his career in South Africa with the Bulls, where he has a coaching contract waiting for him after his expected retirement after the World Cup.
The 38-year-old, who had a six-month spell with Toulon in 2008, retired after the 2011 World Cup but returned to playing last year after two years as a coach.
