IF THERE’S ONE thing we like more than Match of the Day, it’s a bonus midweek Match of the Day on a Wednesday night.
Alongside the news that the beloved football highlights show has been renewed until 2019, the BBC announced a new midweek show which will begin next season.
The new three-year deal cost £240 million, the Guardian reports. ITV, who poached the weekly highlights package from 2001-2004, did not bid for the rights.
Match of the Day, which is celebrating its 50th year, is “the most iconic brand in television sport,” BBC Sport’s director Barbara Slater said.
