Rain, do not ruin this one on us.

GOLF FANS KNOW that Masters week really begins with the annual par three competition on the Wednesday.

For most people, it’s the first chance to sit down and enjoy the sights and sounds of Augusta National, a harmless preamble (well, relatively harmless — don’t mention the curse) which serves as a nice little appetizer before the main course begins on Thursday.

The weather forecast for the week has been pretty iffy and as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the area this afternoon, tournament officials felt they had no other option but to abandon the par three competition and close the course for the rest of the day.

Mike Weir and Brendan Steele were among those who managed to get their first few holes played, and led the way on three-under when play was called. Whether or not the curse still applies, well, that remains to be seen.
