And after flying home from the match in New York, they are present at Oriel Park to see in-form striker Sean Maguire score a hat-trick as Cork City defeated Dundalk 3-0 in their top of the table clash in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

Maguire opened the scoring in the first-half before bagging two more goals after half-time to bring his tally for the season to 16 goals.

The Kilkenny native’s sparkling form has been a huge factor in Cork City building up a lead at the top of the table that increased to 18 points after tonight’s victory.

There have been plenty calls for Maguire’s form to be recognised with an international call-up for a player who has been linked with a move to Championship side Preston North End.

O’Neill opted not to include Maguire in his squad for the current international schedule which included last night’s friendly and a game on Sunday against Uruguay before the crunch World Cup qualifier against Austria on 11 June.

But the Ireland manager insisted recently he was well aware of the striker’s recent impact.

“I have plucked players from the League of Ireland so I’m not averse to that at all.

“I’ll have a look at it, the young lad has done very well. I saw quite a few games last season, not so much this season I must admit, but he’s doing well and it’s pretty easy for me to get the games now.
