MARTIN O’NEILL HAS taken a dig at the RTÉ punditry team, after his side were heavily criticised at various points during their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, particularly after the Ireland-Scotland 1-1 draw back in June.

Speaking at the RTÉ Sports awards, the Irish manager adopted his usual wry tone and criticised the controversial panel in a relatively light-hearted fashion.

“If I was listening at all to your punditry team, there would be little chance of us fighting back,” he said. “But thankfully, I didn’t listen to them, and particularly a couple, who should possibly be looking for other jobs themselves now, because they get it wrong so often.”

The 63-year-old coach added: “I see they’re not here tonight — at least I’ve turned up. I’ve been the one that’s had the criticism for the last 14 or 15 months.”

What do you think? Have the RTÉ panel been overly harsh at times. Check out reaction to the Ireland-Scotland game from back in June and judge for yourself.
